Platters allow robbers in

2016-10-04 06:00

Goods worth R11 000 have been stolen during a house robbery in Stamen Road, Steenberg, last week.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says the victim was in her house on Wednesday 28 September with someone helping her to prepare platters for a birthday party. “According to the complainant she noticed a white car standing outside in the road close to the driveway but she did not pay attention. As she was busy in the kitchen, someone came to the door – which stood open – and he had a silver firearm in his hand. He just said they must be quiet. Four other people stormed into the house asking where the safe and money were,” he says.

“The complainant told them there was no safe and they went to the bedroom and scratched in the cupboards and drawers. The suspects took a 40-inch television but put it down again, then took a 32-inch Samsung television, jewellery and cell phones as well as an Apple tablet. The suspects were very quick (and just took) the items they wanted. They left in a white Mercedes-Benz down Allenby Drive in a southerly direction.”

The value of the stolen goods is estimated at around R11 000. Steenberg police are investigating a case of house robbery, but no arrests have been made, says Bartlett.
