Diep River police officers arrested eight people in the week from Monday 28 July to Saturday 5 August.

They were arrested for crimes ranging from reckless and negligent driving and drunk driving to assault, hijacking, possession of a stolen car, housebreaking and theft.

Patrols were conducted in Diep River, Kirstenhof and Wynberg last Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00, says Diep River police spokesperson Sergeant Amanda Gordon.

“The operation consisted of four police officers, nine Law Enforcement members, sixteen neighbourhood watch members and six security members. Two vehicle check points were held. A total of 158 cars were stopped and 12 fines amounting to R15 000 were issued. Two arrests were made, one for trespassing, the other for shoplifting. Both are Kirstenhof cases. Five cars were stopped due to licence plate recognition alerts,” Gordon says.
