Mitchell’s Plain police made significant strides in the fight against crime with several drug busts on Tuesday 10 January.

According to reports from provincial police, officers of the Mitchell’s Plain Cluster Tactical Response Team (TRT) pounced on a 25-year-old suspect in Cornflower Street, Lentegeur at 12:40 after receiving a tip-off about drugs and an illegal firearm.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says officers confiscated a 9mm short firearm with two rounds of ammunition and one magazine.  “They also found 150 Mandrax tablets, five grams of tik and a few dagga cigarettes with an estimated street value of R5 000.”

This was followed by another arrest in Viooltjie Street in Lentegeur at about 13:00 when officers from Lentegeur Police Station arrested a 41-year-old suspect found with a plastic bag containing 72 dagga stoppe with an estimated street value of R1 500.

Just a few hours later, Lentegeur police arrested a 40-year-old woman in Lobelia Street. Van Wyk says officers followed up on information about narcotics in the house and arrested the woman after they discovered 648 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R16 200 in an oven.
