A few youngsters from Manenberg were treated to a hike up Lion’s Head a few weeks ago. The hike was arranged by the various sector managers of the Manenberg police station.

According to Lieutenant Ian Bennett, who was on the hike himself, it was an early start for most, but they needed to hike up to the summit before the sun became unbearably hot at midday.

Bennett says the hike was aimed at uplifting the youth while also allowing them an experience they would not usually experience in their day-to-day environment.

“It was an opportunity to allow them an experience of a lifetime,” says Bennett. “To show them that they have the ability to achieve in life. This was the message we hope to leave with them. It was an experience of endurance and commitment. The lesson taught that we all have a path to follow in life. You need to be committed and overcome the challenges.”
