There’s a certain kind of magic when you slipped into a simple slipper on Slipper Day this year.

Hosted on Friday 5 August the comforting feel your feet slipping into a warm slipper played a part in making dreams come true for children with life-threatening illness.

The Reach For A Dream Foundation is an organisation that knows it cannot make children better, but it can provide some hope, inspiration, joy and delightful memories by fulfilling a dream for ill children.

On Friday 26 August the rewards of all those feet in slippers became more than a reality when Reach For A Dream and Pick n Pay handed out slipper socks to children in the wards at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. And, the added bonus was a cheque for R550 000.

For Slipper Day the foundation invited people across the country to join in and show their support by donning a pair of slippers for the annual initiative.

By simply buying a R10 sticker and wearing slippers, participants raised funds for children with life-threatening illnesses to see their dreams become a reality. The initiative has continued to grow and this year the foundation hopes to raise over R3.5m, however the official figure has not yet been released as funds are still coming in.

Adrian Naude, Marketing Group Executive of Pick n Pay says: “We know our customers care deeply about those in need and by partnering with Reach for a Dream, we are able to help realise these children’s dreams. Pick n Pay is proud to be associated with this worthy cause.”

For 28 years, Reach For A Dream has been granting wishes, big and small, to South African children fighting life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, cystic fibrosis and heart conditions. It is committed to making dreams come true by creating magical and memorable experiences for children and their families.
