Record year for WID

2017-01-17 06:01

The Woodstock Improvement District (WID) aims to soar even higher after a momentous year on several fronts last year.

Projects that have been in the works for 10 years have finally come to fruition with the WID team working more cohesively than ever. There is positive change around every corner, with new life coming into the suburb, says Chris Lloyd of the organisation.

He explains that Woodstock faces a number of daily issues, including drinking and fighting in public, car accidents, theft from cars, burglaries, robberies, damage to properties and fires in public spaces.

“The WID security team consists of two vehicles, four foot patrollers and two law enforcement officers that cover the ground from Monday to Friday,” he says.

“In the evenings and at weekends there are also two vehicles to keep an eye on the area. It may sound like a small team, but more than 3200 incidents were handled in the 2015/16 period.

“There is also our cleansing team comprising eight cleaners that dealt with 2500 cleansing jobs in the same period with 213 tons of rubble and rubbish taken to the Woodstock dump site.

“We want to continue to improve the area and make a positive impact,” he says.

“Coupled with support and active cooperation of locals, the benefit of a safer community will be seen. Our organisation provides top-up cleaning and security services to one of Cape Town’s oldest residential and business nodes.”
