Two days’ pay from military men paved the way for a famous hospital that saves the lives of many children.

The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital will honour its founders at its Day of Remembrance celebration on Friday 11 November.

This annual event is held to celebrate the World War II servicemen and veterans who donated two days of their pay towards the establishment of the famous hospital.

Their vision was to create a living memorial in honour of their fallen comrades and today, this world-class hospital continues to save the lives of more than a 250 000 children each year.

This year, the hospital celebrates 60 years of service.

The public can join the celebration and lay a wreath or some flowers for a loved one at the facility.
