A new team has been elected to move West Cape Villas forward. Residents elected a new ratepayer’s association on Thursday.

This follows the resignation of most of the association’s executive members. Waydeline Hendricks explained at the elective meeting it was as a result of personal lives and other factors.

“This is a young community,” said Michael Jacobs, who led proceedings.

“It has been a challenging time, but you must put your family first. You moved here because you thought it would be a better life for you, but [there are] constant break-ins and [you are] not getting what you are supposed to from the law enforcement agencies and roleplayers. So nominate strong leaders who can be your voice.”

Natalie Bent, ward councillor for the area, acknowledged that it was a year of many challenges for the executive members and thanked them for their time and efforts.

The residents re-elected Niamatullah Edwards as chairperson, Cherise Kindo as deputy chairperson, Hendricks as secretary and Siraaj Abrahams as treasurer. All candidates stood unopposed.
