Residents warned after house burglaries

Police in Rondebosch are warning residents in the area to be more aware of safety and security in their homes.

Rondebosch police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam says that at 14:30 on Monday 22 August a 21-year-old woman was robbed inside her apartment in Albion Springs Close.

“The complainant was chatting to her sister inside the lounge with the front door wide open when they were accosted by a suspect with a knife in his hand,” says Sisam.

The suspect threatened them and demanded their cellphones. He then took two laptops, two iPhones and an undisclosed amount of cash and ran out of the apartment.

“Luckily nobody was injured during the robbery.”

In another incident a resident in Frean Road received a call from her security service provider that her home had been broken into. “When she arrived she discovered that one of the windows had been removed and her 48-inch TV had been stolen.”

However, police and other law enforcement agencies have had successes, Sisam says.

“During a joint operation on the weekend of Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August, eleven drivers were arrested for driving while under the influence of liquor or drugs.

V Anyone with information regarding the robberies in the area can call Detective Constable Solwandle on 021 685 2476.
