A man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for robbing a woman of her cellphone and jacket in Tokai Forest.

The incident occurred last year. The victim was approached by the robber, who demanded the items.

Sergeant Deidre Solomon, spokesperson of Kirstenhof police station, says police responded quickly to the complaint and the stolen cellphone was tracked to Wynberg taxi rank where a search started among the commuters.

“The complainant then identified the suspect who had been sitting in a taxi. The suspect was taken out of the taxi and searched and in his possession was the complainant’s stolen cellphone and jacket,” Solomon explains.

. Meanwhile, police are pleading for the community to come forward with information in regard to an unsolved murder which occurred in the Westlake area on Sunday 8 March at about 23:00.

Solomon says police were called out to a scene in Arum Avenue in Westlake and came across a man who had been stabbed in the throat.

“The deceased, a Malawian resident of Westlake, was wearing khaki trousers, striped T-shirt, black and white leather jacket and Adidas takkies,” she says.

Those who witnessed the incident should call detective Cordom on 021 702 8900.
