Residents and students of Heideveld have a place where they get resources to help in their final push to a successful exam or career.

Heideveld library in Heideveld Road boasts its own partitioned study area, where students can complete projects as well as study in a safe, quiet and well-lit area.

Anthony Moses, councillor for ward 44, says the project was initiated in April to serve the need of pupils at first.

“The aim of the project is to provide students as well as adults with an area in the library where they can study their work and do their projects. It gives students an area where they can go through career books for further education and adults can use the space when looking for employment without any interference from younger library users,” says Moses.

Besides offering a service, the library wants to use the study area as a drawcard for members of the public to show them there are areas in the library which can provide for their needs.

Moses says the estimated cost of the entire project is about R125 000, which was provided from the ward budget. The project took two weeks to complete.

In addition to widening its services to the public, Heideveld Library has won the Display of the Year award, an annual competition held by the City’s library management. A theme is provided to libraries and the library staff construct a display around that theme. The Heideveld library also won an award in the reading competition in the category for Afrikaans.

A senior librarian says the staff are grateful to Moses for helping and being an inspiration for what the library has achieved so far.
