Police have arrested a second suspect in the murder case of local businessman Calvin Goliath.

Following an ongoing investigation, police arrested the second suspect at 11:00 on Friday 27 May.

“The Tafelsig man handed himself over to police after he became aware that police were looking for him,” says Mitchell’s Plain police spokesperson Lieutenant Ian Williams.

The 30-year-old man faces charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery and possession of an illegal firearm.

The first suspect, a 37-year-old man, was arrested on Friday 20 May following the shooting of the Premium Sports Bar owner (“Businessman gunned down”, People’s Post, 24 May).

Goliath was gunned down on Thursday 19 May in front of the pub in Avocado Way, Westridge.

The first suspect appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain regional court on Monday 23 May.

The case has been postponed to Monday 13 June.

Goliath was laid to rest on Saturday 28 May at the Christ the Redeemer Church in Westridge.
