Shoot-out after drugs are lost

A 27-year-old man was killed in Athall Walk, Hanover Park when a gang of men allegedly opened fire on him on Wednesday. According to police a 24-year-old was also caught up in the shooting and was injured.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says: “A 27-year-old was fatally wounded and a 24-year-old injured on Wednesday at 07:40. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

“The motive for the shooting and killing is unknown and it has yet to be determined if the incident was gang-related. The suspects are unknown and fled the scene on foot. No arrest has been made as yet.”

Locals in the area say the shooting occurred after a stash of drugs went missing. The deceased’s brother was allegedly responsible for the drugs and lost them.
