Shootings looked into

On Thursday 26 May at about 15:30 Steenberg police responded to a case at Retreat Day Hospital where a 20-year-old male victim was treated for a gunshot wound to his chest.

It is alleged that the victim was shot in Cuba Heights, Lavender Hill. The motive for the shooting is allegedly gang related.

The victim was transported to Groote Schuur Hospital for further treatment. Steenberg police are investigating a case of attempted murder. The suspects are at large.

On the same day, a 46-year-old Bonteheuwel man was robbed after he withdrew R21 000 cash at a bank in Vangate Mall. The cash was placed in two separate bags.

When the victim stopped in Sonata Street, Steenberg, he was approached by three man who demanded the money. The victim gave them one bag and they demanded the other one. He was then shot and sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.

The suspects fled in a white Nissan bakkie with an unknown registration number.

It is alleged that the victim was followed from the bank. A case of robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted murder has been opended. The suspects are at large.

Steenberg police spokesperson, Warrant Officer John Bartlett, urgeds the community not to withdraw large sums of money from banks or ATMs and rather make use of electronic transfers.
