The Puma School of Speed series’s sees its second of five events head to Cape Town this week with the action set to take place at the Green Point Athletics Stadium tomorrow.

Launched in November last year, the series aims to develop athletic talent in South Africa by discovering young “speedsters”.

The School of Speed is headed by multiple Olympic champion and current world record holder in the 100m and 200m Usain Bolt.

Bolt has appointed reigning South African 100m champion Henricho Bruintjies as his vice-principal in South Africa.

“It’s exciting for Puma and Stillwater Sports to bring this innovative junior athletics series to South Africa,” says Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports.

Meyer feels that South Africa boasts exceptionally strong sprinting talent and is amazed at seeing the Puma School of Speed uncover that talent.

“We were motivated to launch the School of Speed having witnessed the unbelievable energy unleashed by South African sprinters at the Rio Olympics. We don’t want to lose that momentum,” says Puma marketing director Brett Bellinger.

“The School of Speed is a call to young South Africans to follow in the speedy footsteps of Bolt and Bruintjies … they could even win a contract with Puma.”
