As part of the Strandfontein Police’s zero tolerance against crime, police initiated a high density patrol on Friday 12 August from 07:00 to 15:00.

Station commander Captain David Malong initiated the patrols throughout the entire Strandfontien police precinct with special focus on the most problematic areas.

The initiative included drug house searches and stop-and-search operations.

Malong and the Strandfontein police team were joined by Mitchell’s Plain deputy cluster head Brigadier Magauta Letsalo, residents, the Strandfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF), neighbourhood watch and block watch members.

“What I admired the most was the interaction between the community and the police, where the community took the opportunity to speak about the challenges they are faced with while on patrol. On parade we were addressed by the Deputy Cluster Commander on the purpose of this operation and to engage with the community,” says CPF chairperson Sandy Schuter Jacobs.

While doing searches, the CPF also carried out a pamphlet drive both for domestic violence awareness and to thank the residents for their support.

“The new block watch members were in awe of the volume of youth that bunk at these suspicious houses and the condition of these houses we visited. But at the same time, it gave them that extra motivation to want to be more active in their safety structures,” says Schuter Jacobs.

One of the successes by Malong and his group was the arrest of a suspect in possession of stolen property.

“This was followed by an awareness drive roadblock, where we all joined in as partners until 13:00,” says Schuter Jacobs.

“The Strandfontein Community Policing Forum would like to thank and appreciate the safety structure volunteers that ensure the safety of the community and for always being available when they are needed.”
