A local organisation is looking to get children reading and a local shopping centre has aided them by sponsoring hundreds of books to a Tafelsig school.

Read to Rise and Liberty Promenade visited Searidge Park Primary School to hand over more than 300 books to Grade 2 and 3 pupils.

The handover took place on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 September.

The books authored by Athol Williams are the foundation of the organisation’s mission to get children reading.

Grade 2 pupils received Oaky and the Sun while the Grade 3 pupils received Oaky the Happy Tree – the continuation of Oaky’s story.

This was the first time the mall became involved in the initiative.

Roscoe Williams, project manager for Read to Rise, encourages more donors to become involved in getting Mitchell’s Plain schools reading.

Books cost R45 each to sponsor. V For more information on how to sponsor books visit their website or email
