Three held for Malawian’s murder

2017-01-24 06:01

Three men were arrested on Wednesday last week in connection with a murder in Woodlands.

Lansdowne police spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka confirms the men – aged 16, 17 and 36 years – were arrested at about 09:30 at a home in Freedom Park informal settlement.

“The arrest came after [the suspects allegedly] murdered a Malawian national on Tuesday 17 January at 19:00 in Woodlands next to the Freedom Park squatter camp. The suspects then ran and hid inside the squatter camp,” Mnyaka says.

The deceased, a 34-year-old man, was “found lying on his stomach, helpless, after suffering several stab wounds in his chest and was declared dead by the paramedic on the scene”.

“It is believed there were four suspects. Three were apprehended by the Lansdowne crime prevention team after receiving their names. One is still at large,” Mnyaka says.

The motive is unknown.
