Glenthorn A’s have climbed to the top of the Cape Town Softball Association’s super league after beating Falcons at Turfhall on Saturday.

Bronwyn Marshall turned into the offensive hero for Glenthorn when she batted in Deidré Sassman and Cindy Davids in the bottom of the fifth inning to hand the Athlone outfit a 5-4 victory.

Marshall then kept Falcons scoreless to retain Glenthorn’s unbeaten record.

The A’s were quick off the mark, scoring two runs in the first inning with Lynn Lekay and Alex Fortune crossing the plate.

Falcons steadily clawed their way back into the game, scoring runs every alternate inning to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning. A’s also reigned supreme in the defensive aspect of the game with an error-free display.

Veteran Marshall pitched for A’s. She faced 22 batters and gave up six hits. Nicky Jones pitched for Falcons, facing 23 batters and giving up eight hits.

Marshall (2-2) was Glenthorn’s best batter along with Lekay (1-2), while Lindsay Vercueil (2-3), Ammaarah Larney (2-4) and Celeste Marks (2-3) performed for Falcons.
