Road rehabilitation has led to a daytime road closure in Spine Road.

The municipality is busy with the resurfacing of Spine Road. Roadworks are currently under way along the section of Spine Road between the intersections of Witsands Road and Seafarer Drive.

The roadworks have resulted in the temporary road closure of Spine Road in the direction of Strandfontein (westbound) between Weltevreden and Witsands roads.

“The project is to be completed by Monday 14 November, if all goes as planned,” says Brett Herron, Mayco member for transport.

The project costs about R3m.

“In order to accommodate this much-needed rehabilitation work, the westbound traffic on Spine Road is diverted to Baden Powell Drive along Weltevreden Road and Witsands Road. The diversion for westbound traffic applies during normal working hours only – thus, the diversion does not apply in the evening. The eastbound traffic, however, is still using Spine Road,” says Herron.

Daytime traffic is diverted along Weltevreden Avenue onto Baden Powell Drive and then onto Witsands Road.

“Signs were placed on either end of the work area one week before the roadworks started. The City apologises for the inconvenience, but the maintenance cannot be avoided or postponed any longer,” says Herron.
