Police arrested a 28-year-old man at 21:15 on Tuesday 19 September.

While on patrol in Ivy Street, Lentegeur, officers saw a suspect coming out of a known drug house and when he saw police, he ran into the yard. Police gave chase and caught the suspect where he had thrown a firearm behind a Wendy house.

Police confiscated a Taurus revolver containing five .38 calibre special rounds. The serial number of the revolver had been filed off. The man has since appeared in court.

In an unrelated matter, a 33-year-old man was arrested on Monday 18 September at 21:30 in connection with a shooting.

Officers were in patrol in Merrydale Avenue when they heard gunshots coming from a field near Snapdragon and went to investigate. They spotted a suspect who started running when he saw police and they gave chase.

The officers saw the man drop something and after arresting him collected the firearm he had dropped.

Police recovered a 9mm Star pistol with a magazine and nine live rounds. The man was arrested for possession of a firearm without a licence.
