Upgrades to mental health ward

2016-11-15 06:00

Much needed flooring upgrades will see the temporary relocation of a ward from the local district hospital.

The Mitchell’s Plain Hospital’s Male Mental Health Ward staff and inpatients will be temporarily relocated to the Lentegeur Hospital’s Magnolia Ward from Sunday 20 November to February 2017.

The relocation comes as a result of floor renovations scheduled to take place within the stipulated time period. The hospital staff and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team will be on duty to ensure the safe and smooth relocation of patients to the temporary ward.

Clients presenting to the facility for mental health care must still go via the Emergency Centre (EC) for an assessment, and a psychiatric doctor on duty will determine the diagnosis of the patient’s care and whether the patient will be admitted to the temporary ward.

Visitors should enter the Lentegeur Hospital’s entrance via Highlands Drive to gain access to the Magnolia Ward during visiting hours (from 14:00 to 15:00 and 19:00 to 20:00).

A strict security system will monitor the inpatients and visitors are urged to adhere to staff instructions for security and safety measures.

The mental health holding area waiting times in the EC will also be affected by the renovations, but management has put systems in place to ensure a smooth patient flow during this process.

Hospital management requests that clients practice patience during this period when arriving for mental health care and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

V For more information call the hospital on 021 377 4300.
