Week of stories at libraries

Book lovers will have an excuse to bury their noses in books as the South Peninsula annual book festival kicks off this week. South African authors will share their stories at the Fish Hoek, Masiphumelele, Simon’s Town, Kommetjie and Ocean View libraries.

Fish Hoek’s principal librarian, Janusz Skarzynski, says: “More than thirty authors will be appearing at different events, many of whom are award winners.”

Bridget Pitt will chat about her life and work at Kommetjie Library today at 19:00.

Linda “Lulu” Fellowes, co-author of picture books Nicole: The surf is my turf, Eric in It’s a piece of cake and Peter, Pamela and Percy in the Big Spill, will read stories for 3 to 7-year-olds on the Kommetjie Library lawn tomorrow at 14:30.

There will be a crime and wine evening at Fish Hoek Library tomorrow at 19:00. Darrell Bristow-Bovey will be interrogating Paige Nick and Michéle Rowe.

Diane Awerbuck will be in conversation with Jacqui Lange, Claire Robertson and Rahla Xenopoulos, discussing the foreign settings of their books at Fish Hoek Library on Thursday.

Christine Coates will be in conversation with Máire Fisher at Fish Hoek Library on Friday at 10:00. Nal’ibali will be presenting story time at 11:00 and Tan Twan Eng will be interviewed by Mark Gevisser at 19:00.

Masiphumelele Library will be hosting Back Stage Theatre’s production of Linkomo Zisebuhlanti on Friday at 15:30.

Sicelo Kula will be talking about his book Taking Chances at Masiphumelele Library on Saturday at 11:00.

Jade Gibson will be at Fish Hoek Library on Saturday at 14:00 with Christine Qunta and Rosamund Haden to discuss their work with Dorothy Dyer of FunDza. Rachel Zadok talks to Rebecca Davis, Alex van Tonder and Kathryn White at 15:30.

Cat Hellisen, Sally Partridge and Zimkhitha Mlanzeli speak on young adult literature in the Fish Hoek Library at 17:00. This is followed by the grande finale at Fish Hoek Library at 19:00, when Mike Nicol teases out the process from a writer, an editor and a publisher: Máire Fisher, Helen Moffett and Colleen Higgs.
