Wife stabs lover

A 53-year-old woman from 6th Avenue informal settlement in Kensington, who allegedly stabbed another woman who was having an affair with her husband, made her first court appearance yesterday.

Police found a 50-year-old woman dead in the house of the accused on Friday morning.

The accused was arrested on the spot and was kept in custody until her appearance in court.

The name of the deceased has not been released yet as her family has not been notified.

Before the fatal incident the husband and his wife were apparently arguing about the husband’s affair. The wife then went on to stab the other woman.

Mogamat Nordien, chairperson of the Kensington street committee, says he received a call about the incident and quickly attended to the matter.

“It is alleged that the husband and wife were arguing before the incident of the stabbing.

“It all happened in the accused’s house. A lot of information is still sketchy and we are trying to get to the bottom of it.

“However, the accused was arrested immediately,” he says.

Police spokesperson Sergeant David Stemmet says a case of murder has been opened for investigation.

“She appeared in court today (Monday) and she will have to make a formal bail application if she wants to apply for bail.

“The name of the deceased is still being withheld as we don’t have the address of her family and no-one has been notified about the incident,” says Stemmet.
