Mothers have come together to support one another and learn how to deal with the death of their children.

Destiny Changers Difference Makers (DCDM), in collaboration with the management of the Rocklands Civic Centre and Moms Move for Justice, hosted a workshop at the centre on Thursday 24 November.

The goal of the workshop, and one held in October, was to bring together mothers who have lost one or more of their children as a result of violence.

The workshop offers support, refers them to trained trauma counsellors and tells them what to expect from the justice department and about the constitutional rights of a family affected.

“The collaboration came about after I was affected by the sudden and violent death of a young adult closely linked to my family,” says Sandy Oorstendorp, DCDM founder.

“The senseless death of this young man and his close friend shook me to such an extent as I watched the mothers grieving over their sons.”
