The fun of the festive season was in Kensington last week when Shawco, UCT’s Students’ Health and Welfare Centres Organisation, hosted its annual Christmas party.

About 200 children from Kensington, Factreton and Maitland were treated to the party which was hosted in partnership with Dell Computers and some community-based organisations at the Shawco centre last Thursday.

Kevin Alexander, master of ceremonies on the day, says there was entertainment and treats for the children.

“All the children had a great time with entertainment by the College of Magic, DJ Tony Smith and Carly Jacobs,” he says.

“The children also enjoyed fun games, jumping castles, snacks, lunch, party packs and face painting. But the best part was the arrival of Santa Claus and his elves to hand out some gifts to them.

“This event was all about the magic of Christmas.”

The children were also given some motivation with talks by Shawco director Gavin Joachims and local ward councillor Helen Jacobs.
