A 19-year-old man was shot and killed in Hanover Park on Monday 17 October.

He was murdered in front of a spaza shop in Hanall Walk, at about 14:40, confirms Philippi police spokesperson Captain Lance Goliath.

“The deceased sustained a single gunshot wound to his head. Medics certified him as dead on the scene.

“No cartridges were found on the crime scene,” Goliath says.

The killer is unknown.

No arrest has been made as yet, Goliath says, and police are investigating a case of murder.

Goliath says it is yet to be confirmed if the incident is gang-related, as the motive for the killing is still unclear.

Shootings in the Hanover Park area have spiked in recent weeks, which has led to intensified police presence in the area, Goliath confirms.

“Police are doing all they can to ensure the safety of the community.

“Through an integrated approach, police, together with Metro Poolice and Law Enforcement, are deployed to the hotspot areas in Hanover Park to curb shootings,” Goliath says.
