Decision Affects Destinies (DAD) recently held a graduation ceremony at the Thusong Family Centre in Tafelsig.

The event saw 40 members or “ambassadors” of the youth mentor programme graduate on Thursday last week.

Councillor Eddie Andrews said at the ceremony that the City of Cape Town aimed to champion the interests of the youth.

The main focus of the DAD programme was to cement the rooted relationships with the youth with the view to work alongside them long enough to ensure skills transfer, he said.

Andrews identified the importance of building linkages, partnerships and networks to support to youngsters at risk in a coordinated way by collaborating with other City departments, other spheres of government, particularly the provincial department of social development, and civil society.

Andrews also thanked Nursing Works, Childline, the Cape Town Drug Counselling Centre, Abbotts College, Children in Action, Cape Flats TEDA, Golden Arrow bus services, City nature conservation and the social development and early childhood development departments for their contributions to the programme.

He appealed to the youth to increase their involvement in structures and active citizenship with the view to become agents of positive change who make meaningful contributions to themselves, their family and their communities.

Nikita Arendse was awarded as the overall DAD Ambassador of the Year.
