Appalled and disappointed by HCM

2015-05-14 06:00

I AM incredibly disappointed in the Hibiscus Coast Municipality. Its lack of service delivery is appalling and absolutely inexcusable. For the last year I have been trying to acquire a trading licence and a site to operate my business from, but to date nothing has come to light.

I want to know how is it that I was told by an official at the Hibiscus Coast Municipality that five sites have been assigned as vacant and will be allocated to traders. After I submitted the necessary forms and have met the requirements (I know I have met the requirements as I have obtained COCs and the fire departments approval my trailer), I was recently told those sites are no longer available as they have been allocated to traders.

This is ridiculous because when driving past those sites they are still vacant.

I was informed via e-mail, not to worry - the municipality will resolve the matter and allocate the sites in a fair and transparent manner. This does not transpire as resolving the matter with transparency.

There are “hawkers” trading on every second street corner, and I am wondering if those ladies and fellows have had to go through the same uphill I have been facing for the past few months before they received permits and permission to trade on those corners.

Maybe I should throw caution to the wind and just do whatever I please the same way the municipality seems to be doing as it pleases.

I want to know what is going on. I want the municipality to take accountability and resolve this speedily and transparently. I am a local resident and this is my livelihood. I have had enough of this municipality and the way it has been dangling us on a line. As residents we need to stand together and draw a line. It’s to here and no further.
