AS can be expected, this year’s crime statistics come with the good and bad. House break-ins and robberies have increased in Margate and Southport, but sex-related crimes have dropped. We live in a time when we are not safe anywhere, not even in our own home, so let’s be extra vigilant at all times.

The two rape cases we reported on this week leave one disheartened. A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two men for over a year at different times and a five-year-old allegedly by her stepfather who is a known local businessman. It is everyone’s duty to protect minors. Report these incidents to police if you are aware of any.

The holiday season is upon us and there may be some rude people around, bad drivers and the like, but let’s try our best to keep calm and be tolerant of each other
