FOUR people lost their lives in a four-vehicle accident on the N2 between Hibberdene and Umtentweni on Monday.

Robert Mckenzie of KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services said the crash involved a bus, bakkie, SUV and car.

“The crash left all of the light motor vehicles severely damaged. The crash scene was spread out over about 250 metres of the highway and the road had to be closed for several hours while the scene was being cleared,” said Mckenzie.

The dead are three females and a teenage boy.

Two of other passengers were critically injured and a further five sustained serious injuries.

The patients were transported to several hospitals in the area including Port Shepstone hospital for continued medical care.

“We send our condolences to the families and friends who have lost loved ones. Words can’t even try to subdue the sadness and loss that they must be felling. We also wish a speedy recovery to those who have been injured in today’s crash,” said Mckenzie.
