Get grooming and growing this Movember

2015-11-04 06:00

MEN, get ready for the hairiest month of the year, November or Movember as it is known to all who join Cansa in raising awareness about prostate and testicular cancer.

Cansa South Coast is calling for male survivors to share their experience and journey during the month of Movember.

“We are trying to get male cancer survivors to be as open and as inspiring as the women were during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Sesethu Senene, community mobiliser.

“We find that a lot of men are ashamed about sharing what they are going through or have gone through,” she added.

She said the organisation would like to record a few men sharing their story for its Facebook page.

“Hopefully this will remove the shame and stigma surrounding prostate and testicular cancer,” she said.

Men can support Movember by starting clean-shaven on 1 November and then devoting a few minutes of their time every day to growing and grooming their moustaches.

This year the Movember Foundation is also encouraging “Mo Bros” and “Mo Sistas” to get active by getting involved with a fitness programme for 30 minutes every day.

The global foundation commits itself to men living happier, healthier, longer lives by raising funds.

Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising R5.7 billion and funding over 1 000 programmes focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.

There are also various ways to fund-raise during Movember.
