HCM mum on nudist beach

THE Concerned Citizens Group of the Hibiscus Coast are pulling out all stops to make sure their voices are heard.

The group appealed to the Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s (HCM) decision to allow Mpenjati beach to be made naturist friendly in December 2014.

HCM said councillors were to announce their decision at a meeting in March however, the announcement was postponed. In the meantime, naturists had their “official opening” over the Easter weekend.

“We have had no written feedback from the municipality and are disappointed. We have asked the Premier’s office to intervene and await feedback. We have also sent documents and information to Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs,” said Reverend Mike Effanga, who represents the group.

Failing any action from the Premier, their next step will be to involve the Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela­.

“Nudists have used the beach illegally. The by-laws have not been relaxed,” he said.

He added that signage which the naturists association erected on the beach - explaining the rules for usage of the beach - was done so illegally.

Effanga said a meeting will take place on Thursday at Marburg Haven at 5pm.

Spokesperson for HCM, Simon April was approached for comment but none had been received at the time of going to press
