Hibiscus Kennel Club news

HIBISCUS Kennel Club congratulates the 14 members who passed their Canine Good Citizen tests and challenges other members to do the same next time the opportunity arises, which we promise will be soon.

The agility and flyball members were honoured to be part of the Creston School’s 20-year celebrations. The dogs all worked the agility course and did some stunning rounds but as we all know our animals teach us humility and how to smile through the that humility and true to form each and every dog had forgotten all they had ever learnt at flyball training. Fortunately, we redeemed ourselves on the second round.

Joy Botha and Sue McCay travelled to Bloemfontein to participate in the KUSA nationals carting and did exceptionally well. Joy and Nala received their colours and were the overall winners and Jesse, also belonging to Joy, obtained three first positions with an average of 97%

McCay also did very well with her two dogs achieving three qualifications with Gita and first and second with Josi, both with qualifications.

On 15 August we held the Margate Kennel Club Show at the club. It was a small field, but those who attended thoroughly enjoyed the courses for which we thank Nicki Calvert and first-time dog-jumping judge, Desiree Grutter.

Ninette Smith was very pleased with her little team of four. Ozz surprised her with a second and third place, Sparkle did well with her first and third positions, Glitz received a fourth place and Swish had two 1sts with a qualification as well as a second place,

Linda Lyte and Vixen took home three thirds, one with a qualification,

Sharon Derman was delighted with Charlie and his two second places, one with a qualification.

Billy-Anne Engelbrecht and Gunner are going from strength to strength and went home with a first with qualification as well as a fourth place. It was certainly the small- dogs day.

Not far behind in the medium category we had Bernice Smit and Mindy with a first and second and Jane Cruickshank and Mackie with a third as well as Sharlene Sherrard and Turbo with two first places

Linda Livesey and Dexi received a first with qualification and Linda also ran Shado who surprised his owners with a second place. It just shows you what regular training does.

Also in the large-dog category was Jenny Robertson, and Jodie with a third place.

We thank Montego Dog Food for its generous sponsorship.

On 22 August Ninette Smith took her dogs to Ashley to compete in the championship and Swish came home with another qualification for dog jumping and Sparkle achieved a second place in dog jumping.

A reminder to all that the Hibiscus Coast Championship Show takes place 25, 26 and 27 September.
