THE South African Traditional Music Awards (Satma) honoured international guests at its red-carpet event at St Michael’s Hotel, on Wednesday 30 September at 6pm.

Guests included Mama Sarah Obama, U.S. president Barack Obama’s grandmother from Kenya, Samia Nkrumah, daughter of the former Ghanaian president Kwame Nkrumah and Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X.

Satma spokesperson Mbali Khanyile said they honoured these guests for the work they do in their country.

“Satma 2015 honoured Mama Sarah Obama for the work she does in Kenya to improve the lives of her people, especially children. The daughters of the two legends, Malcolm X and Kwame Nkrumah, were also honoured on behalf of their heroic fathers, whose contribution to the African struggle is immense.”

Event host, Hibiscus Coast Municipality, said it was grateful to have been chosen to host an event of this calibre.

The municipality identified two schools in HCM which the delegates visited during their stay.

Simon April HCM’s spokesperson said they were extremely excited.

“We were excited and felt honoured as HCM to have hosted this event and trust that our international guests felt welcome, especially because it was Heritage Month and the guests were part of our South African heritage.

The visit to the schools by the delegates was a landmark for pupils,” said municipal spokesperson Simon April
