Junior anglers fall ‘hook, line and sinker’

2015-04-30 14:54

IT is that time of the year again with many inter-club fishing competitions on the go.

Shelly Beach Ski Boat Club has been working on junior development over the past months to encourage young anglers to get involved with competitive deep-sea angling. As part of this programme two competitions were chosen for the juniors to attend, one hosted by Durban Ski Boat Club and the other hosted by Natal Rod and Reel Club.

Recently, the Shelly Beach team of Charles du Plessis (veteran Natal provincial angler), his daughter Megan du Plessis (14) and Bevan Taljaard (15) attended the Rod and Reel Inter-club in Durban.

The two-day event saw anglers representing clubs from all along the coast competing for top honours.

The three junior teams (Shelly Beach, Pennington and Warnerdoone) all placed in the top five overall, which is a great indicator of the enthusiasm and skill of the upcoming juniors.

Shelly Beach Ski Boat Club is committed to continuing with the junior development programme with the goal of having at least one of its juniors competing in the junior nationals at Shelly Beach in July.
