Mail delivery issues have been ‘resolved’ - SAPO spokesperson

2015-08-27 06:00

THE South Africa Post Office is, according to reports, in dire financial trouble, but to try to solve the problem, last Thursday a new board of executives was elected, this while post recipients and businesses are suffering because of the situation.

Reports also indicate that many SAPO vehicles are unable to deliver mail because there is no money for fuel, but SAPO says that mail delivery delays have been resolved.

“The South Africa Post Office is pleased to inform customers that its mail conveyance delays have been resolved. Full conveyancing capacity will be restored as of tomorrow 15 August,” said SAPO spokesperson, Johan Kruger last week.

He said customers should expect sporadic delays in postal deliveries in some areas because of fleet management operational challenges. However, Kruger assured customers that systems will run smoothly.

“We assure customers that our operations are running fully following the resolution of the fleet management operational glitch that caused delays in the conveyance of mail. Our branches and all points of service in our operations have been informed of this development and the restoration of full services to our customers.

“SAPO says that the main cause for its fleet management challenges was based on the contractual arrangement with its current fuel card service provider and there are positive discussions under way. It was not due to a payment dispute as has been incorrectly reported,” said Mlu Mathonsi, SA Post Office acting group CEO.

He said at no point did these fleet management challenges halt the SA Post Offices services except for the mentioned (ilocal deliveries in major cities) sporadic delays that affected certain areas.

SAPO also assured the public that there will be no more hiccups.

“The appointment of the non-executive directors yesterday set the SA Post Office on a solid path towards full implementation of the newly launched corporate strategy, while the appointment of Dr Simo Lushaba, to lead the board, provides the much needed continuity. It also indicates that the cabinet takes the sustainability of the SA Post Office seriously,” said Kruger.

On Tuesday Kruger confirmed that the fuel issue had been resolved last Friday and that all backlog mail will be delivered.

WE ASSURE CUSTOMERS THAT OUR OPERATIONS ARE RUNNING FULLY FOLLOWING THE RESOLUTION OF THE FLEET MANAGEMENT OPERATIONAL GLITCH THAT CAUSED DELAYS IN THE CONVEYANCE OF MAIL
