Margate and Ramsgate beaches open

2015-10-01 06:00

MARGATE and Ramsgate beaches have been reopened, the Ugu District Municipality has confirmed, however, it is still unsafe to swim in the lagoons in both areas.

“The Margate and Ramsgate beaches are open to the public with effect from today [last Wednesday[,” said municipal spokesperson France Zama.

This decision was taken after the municipality had conducted routine water tests from Margate and Ramsgate beaches on Monday, 21 September.

“The results indicated that both beaches are now safe for bathing, swimming and other recreational activities,” he said.

Swimming in the Margate and Ramsgate lagoons is still prohibited.

“They [lagoons] are being closely monitored,” said Zama. “The municipality apologises to residents and tourists who have been affected by the beach closure. We wish to reiterate our commitment in working tirelessly towards ensuring that our district remains an ideal tourist destination.” - Supplied
