UMZUMBE Municipality officials and ANC ward commitee responded to the Mfazana, Mthwalume family who lost their three-year-old daughter in a fire on Friday.

The toddler died when their house burnt down, the cause of which was a paraffin stove.

This happened while the mother was getting water for her other two children to take a bath before school.

It’s alleged that the mother came back and saw the house burning and managed to get two of her three children out, but not the toddler.

The municipality SAPS and emergency services responded and gave the family a tent for temporary shelter, a food parcel and basic necessities - pots and a stove.

Ward 17 community members also assisted by building a one-room house for the family to sleep in.

A neighbour, who rushed to the scene, said there was nothing left of the house so they completed the incomplete one-room structure.

On Sunday the Fever visited the family and met municipal officials and political leaders visiting the family to discuss the way forward.

Ward Cllr Mlongo said the municipality organised a temporary Wendy House for the family which will be delivered during the course of the week.

“We have arranged for a Wendy House and are making arrangements for the burial of the child,” she said
