‘People’s Rescue’ to be revived

2015-08-13 06:00

A MARGATE woman, who previously ran People’s Rescue in Paddock, is hoping to revive the homeless shelter on a farm after it was shut down a few months ago.

“I have managed to get the 99-year lease reinstated, but have to start from scratch,” said Alette Swart.

People’s Rescue changed its name to Angel Wings a few years ago.

The farm is owned by Casim Motala who has generously leased it to People’s Rescue.

“A few months ago, the farm on which the shelter was located was damaged by the people who ran Angel Wings. They have since left the area,” said Swart.

She said the house was stripped of its windows and fittings and most of the people are back on the street.

“Some people have come to live with me at my place in Margate,” she said.

“I’d like to rebuild the house so these people can get their home back,” said Swart.

She asks the community to donate building material, food, furniture, bedding, and the like.
