Public nudity is not tourism

2015-09-10 06:00

WHEN the immoral, illegal, undemocratic, and unethical desires of an non-profit organisation becomes repackaged as “tourism” by officials, local residents of Hibiscus Coast Municipality (HCM) can get a whiff of the unrelenting dishonesty, and attempted betrayal by those who are entrusted to uphold the law and protect the community’s cumulative interests.

Since HCM spokesperson, Simon April, suddenly recollects that officials of HCM were not anointed into a “monarchy” by nudists, but elected by an expectant democratic electorate, it would be refreshing to set aside “chameleon politics” and apply himself responsibly to the disregarded local residents of HCM on this matter by addressing the following issues:

Illegality

On 3 April, HCM authorised unlawful public nudity at Mpenjati by the nudists, which contravened sections of the laws cited below:

Immorality

Swinging naked bodies in public grounds is inconsistent with the “moral climate” of South Africa, and contradicts the “moral regeneration” theme of the current dispensation.

Disrespect to traditional leaders, values and norms

HCM is attempting to donate “ancestral burial grounds” for a parade of naked bodies. Additionally, as a result of the many wars fought at “Impi Enjani” (the original and correct name of Mpenjati), the community purposed to build a memorial site at the location to commemorate their history.

Motivation of child endangerment

Several children of the nudists under 18 participated in public nudity on 3 April and throughout that weekend. Non-participating innocent children at the beach that day were also exposed to private parts swinging in plain view.

Misleading the public

Mr April has indicated in several media reports, that the law forbidding public nudity has been changed, when in fact it hasn’t.

The municipality can begin to restore credibility by admitting publicly that there is no new law promulgated and Gazetted to replace HCM municipal by-law (Part 2, Section 5.1 andamp; 5.2), which prohibits public nudity.

Attempting to dilute environmental protection laws.

True naturists act to protect the environment by encouraging the enforcement of environmental protection laws, nudists on the other hand, seek municipal help to do the exact opposite.

Undemocratic behaviour

Tourists do not enter into society to create new laws, they abide by existing laws like everyone else. In this matter, implicated HCM officials have behaved as “anointed servants of the nudists”.

Unethical behaviour

HCM has gladly offered assistance to the nudists in their attempt to bully the local residents of Mpenjati, by repackaging the illegal intent of the nudists as “tourism”.

Democracy is defined as “a government of the people by the people and for the people.

It is not “a government of the people by the nudist hiding behind elected officials”.

Reverend Mike Effanga Concerned Citizens of HCM

Democracy is defined as ‘a government of the people by the people and for the people’. It is not ‘a government of the people by the nudist hiding behind elected officials’
