Run Comrades on Africa Day

2015-09-10 06:00

FROM my knowledge, the Comrades Marathon was held on May 31, being the day South Africa obtained its republic status.

Now that this historic date is omitted from our calendar and the topic of the Republic of South Africa is no more remembered, I presume that this date and all the events that transpired on that date are in the archives.

From the time this important day was omitted from our calendar there is no set date for the marathon to be held. Fortunately, May 31 fell on a Sunday this year, making it possible for this event to be observed.

Now that we Africans are observing Africa Day on May 25, I feel it only appropriate that we have that date as a public holiday and nominate that day to be listed on our calendars as Africa Day/Comrades Marathon Day.
