SAPS not willing to ‘rotate’

2015-10-15 06:00

THE ANC has suggested that police officers should be rotated across provincial stations. This they said, is because some officers fail to arrest friends and family if they are involved in criminal activities.

The police officers the Fever spoke to said they are not willing to do to be rotated across the province.

ANC Provincial Secretary Sihle Zikalala said the reason why they are proposing rotation is that when a police officer is employed in their city or residential area, they tend to have a problem when it comes to arresting someone they know.

“The officers fail to arrest their friends, family members and relatives, even if they are guilty of a criminal offence so this is why we suggest that rotation will curb the issue of crime in many areas as the officers at that station will have no personal connection to anyone in that area,” said Zikalala.

After police officers heard the news many commented on social media saying they are not in support of this proposal by the ANC.

The Fever visited some police stations and asked some officers how they feel about the proposal.

“We do not support that. We are definitely against it,” said the SAPS officers, who are not authorised to speak to the media.

“If this had to be implemented our lifestyles would change. We would have to leave our families and find accommodation in other towns and that is just not right,” said one officer.

They all agreed that working away from their family will not be right
