Should we all start building bunkers?

2015-07-30 06:00

WITH reference to the talks with the Russian president recently, one wonders if our president remembers the effects of the Chernobyl disaster 20 years ago?

The results are still there, not only in the damaged plant, but in the effects it had, and still has, on people’s lives.

Past media reports country-wide mentioned the “bunkers” under construction at Nkandla. Should we start to protect ourselves as well, digging and building bunkers underneath our private homes?

Our house values would increase, we could have wine cellars, start a business, or we could stock up for the groot gevaar that the president is expecting at his home.

There are so many options now open to a fertile mind. We read that the completion of these bunkers at Nkandla is ongoing and will cost more. Maybe Nkandla was not such a mistake after all.

So taxpayers, have you an idea what and where the nuclear waste will be buried in the future should we go that way? Petra Ehlers
