Still no arrests in Margate beach attack

2015-10-15 06:00

THERE have been no arrests in the robbery and sexual assault case which took place on Margate beach on Thursday.

Police say the woman who was attacked was with a 22-year-old holidaymaker from Johannesburg when the incident took place.

It is alleged that the pair had gone to the beach after visiting a nightclub.

“While on the beach a man approached them and asked for money. He was holding something behind his back,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“Two other men joined the attacker. One of them had a broken bottle in his hand and the other had a knife. The men threatened the holidaymaker and one of them sexually assaulted the woman. The holidaymaker then pleaded for them not to be harmed,” said Wiid.

The three attackers then fled with a cellphone, wallet and cash.
