A FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD boy is in police custody in connection with the robbery of Margate Jet on Sunday night. Store manager Nokuthula Chili received a call from the security company informing her of a disturbance at the shop just after midnight on Monday. When she got to the outlet, she saw the door was smashed, clothing scattered on the floor and Neighbourhood Watch, ADT and Margate SAPS were already at the scene. On searching the premises 14-year-old suspect was found hiding in the storeroom. He informed them that he had two accomplices, one armed, hiding in the roof however, they had fled the scene before the police arrived. “The suspect said he and two others had broken into the store because they wanted to steal the clothing and sell them so they could get some cash,” said Captain Gerald Mfeka. The suspect said he is from Kraanskap near Greytown but was currently residing in Margate without a guardian. Mfeka said that a business robbery case has been opened against the suspect and the police are still looking for his two accomplices.
