Tourism awards team players

2015-10-01 06:00

THE second Ugu South Coast Tourism Awards were held on Wednesday at the Umthunzi Hotel in Umtentweni. Celebrating excellence and recognising individuals and businesses for their commitment to tourism, these awards brought together media, stakeholders, government and the corporate sector in a refreshing way – “A Night at the Movies” – where guests were required to dress the part.

The event was emceed by cricketing legend, local businessman and Ugu South Coast Tourism area chair for Hibberdene, Pat Symcox.

The audience found it difficult to concentrate as Symcox, dressed as John Wayne, and brought the house down with his many quirks and tourism-related comments and stories.

Presenting the awards was Joy Crutchfield in her role as Ugu South Coast Tourism’s chair and Justin Mackory, disguised and dressed as Rocky, was officially there in his capacity as CEO.

Also in attendance was the Ugu District Mayor Councillor Gumede, the Hibiscus Coast Mayor Councillor Mqwebe, ward councillors who participate on tourism area committees and municipal managers from district and local muni-cipalities.

A total of 22 awards and special acknowledgements were announced, including the Wooden Spoon award for that special person who managed to stir things up a bit this year. - Supplied
