Ugu warns aboutbogus employees

2015-07-23 06:02

UGU District Municipality has issued a warning to residents about individuals who go go around demanding payment for replacing water meters pretending to be municipality employees.

“We wish to categorically state that at no point will legitimate employees of the municipality demand payment from our consumers for water-meter replacements,” said municipal spokesperson France Zama.

The municipality is currently undergoing a water-meter replacement programme which forms part of its meter audit and a service provider has been appointed to undertake this programme.

“It must also be noted that our water meters are mostly situated on the outside lawn in residential areas. In the case where a meter is inside the premises, the responsible contractor will attend to the meter and will have no obligation of soliciting payment from the consumer,” he said

The community is urged to be vigilant against these individuals. - Supplied
