Water situation under control in Gamalakhe

2015-10-08 06:00

LAST Friday, 2 October, the municipality discovered that one of the three pumps in the pump station supplying Gamalakhe had experienced an electro mechanical fault which resulted in an intermittent water supply.

Technicians are working around the clock to ensure speedy rectification of this malfunction. To avoid a total collapse of the system while the faulty pump has been sent for repairs, water supply will be shut off between 7pm to 4am daily for the next eight days to allow the systems to build up for sufficient supply.

It is projected that normal supply will resume within the next eight days.

The municipality has made provision of static water tanks in strategic areas around Gamalakhe in consultation with local ward councillors. These tanks are being serviced regularly to ensure that residents have constant access to water. Residents are again urged to use water sparingly during this period and also be very mindful that the district is still under a severe drought situation which still requires communities to conserve water.

The municipality apologises to the community for any inconvenience that might be caused during this period.

Customers are urged to forward all water and sanitation related queries, leaks and burst pipes and illegal water connections to their ward councillors or call 08000 WATER (92837) or (039) 688 5830/36 or SMS 44751. - Supplied
