Youth celebrate their heritage

2015-10-01 06:00

YOUTH Day celebrations went well at Mvutshini hall on Friday 25 September.

The event was hosted by youth organisation, Sakhimpilo Youth, led by Phaphazi Lubanyana in partnership with PhumlaniM Foundation.

Lubanyana was pleased by the support the event received from the community and said his organisation felt it is important to continue having youth gatherings so that young people will have a platform to showcase their talent, and build social cohesion among themselves.

Phumlani Mzobe, one of the speakers, he said he was delighted to be on the soil of Mvutshini to meet young people.

“Many youth have been reading about the PhumlaniM Foundation in the papers and have never seen us in their communities. I thank young people for supporting the foundation through participation and following us on social media.”

Mzobe reminded young people that being black is not a curse, is very special to God which is why, all over the world, black people have been the most talented.

“Young people must express themselves culturally, educationally, spiritually and socially. They must excel in all the important aspects in life,” said Mzobe.

More than 15 local groups rendered performances at the event ranging from poetry, maskandi, indlamu, traditional dance, hip-hop and pansula dance.

The event was attended by youth from Murchison, Margate, Gamalakhe, Gcilima, Nzimakwe, Marburg, Boboyi and Merlewood. - Supplied
